First Lesson - Arabic Alphabet

The Arabic alphabet  or Arabic Abjad is the Arabic script as it is codified for writing the Arabic language, It is written from right to left, in a connected cursive style, giving each letter a different form given its position in the word. and includes 28 letters.








There are three shapes of letters in Arabic Alphabet  initial , medial and final , and there is another shape of letters called the isolated  (  shown in image above ) . 

And at a first we will learn the isolated form because it is the most foundational and the general form of letters .

The challenges and difficulties of learning Arabic

 Learning Arabic , however, is often a challenge . Most of the people when see the Arabic script will conclude how difficult it is. It's, however, certainly not complicated and may be very easily realized by a  few months involving steady exercise and practice . The actual pronunciation can be more of a problem, The Arabic language  getting a number of sounds which are certainly not seen in most of other languages and may be challenging to be able to produce and  make a distinction between , These types of sounds are usually very best realized by imitating any native speaker .

Another problem involving finding out Arabic can be that it's consequently totally different from English and other languages  , Like a Semitic Language , Arabic grammar and morphology is very distinct from what you are usually employed to. Verb tenses function in a different way, the word order get differs from the others .

The greatest challenge in learning Arabic is language diglossia ,  Arab nations  have two languages with big differences between them , The first Modern  Standard Arabic , a common language  to all Arabs  which is the formal literary language that is a modern adaptation of the Classical Arabic of the Kora'an ( The holly book of Islam ) . This language is used in newspapers, news broadcasts, formal speeches , not spoken by Arabs in their daily lives .

The second is  modern language , and this language is spoken by Arabs and do not write them and called the Vernaculars. They differ from one country to another and these various dialects are  the native tongues of Arab people and for example the people of Iraq finding difficulty to understand people of Algeria  ,  here is the main problem of foreign people who want to learn Arabic , he must be studying Modern  Standard Arabic  and at the same time the Vernacular language of Arabian country who lives or study in to communicates with peoples in his daily life .

Another challenge is the writing , the Arab characters having  more than one form of writing: in the first of word and in the middle and in the most recent (can be either connected or separate) and from write to left .

Learning Arabic is a challenge in levels but for  those who wish to learn Arabic as a career asset, Arabic is a skill that is in demand by many companies and in specific professions. If you have the patience and  obligation to gain proficiency, it will be well worth the effort.

It is the official language or one of multiple official languages in 25 countries, ARABIC ranks fifth in the world's league table of languages, with an estimated 422 million native speakers  residing in Middle East and Northern Africa .

 It  is the most spoken language in the group of Semitic Language which also includes Hebrew and Amharic, the main language of Ethiopia.


Arabic language is of paramount importance to Muslims  As the language of the Qur'an, the holy book of Islam , It is  also taught formally or informally in Islamic countries and African countries bordering the Arab nation.


It is one of the six official languages ​​of the United Nations, and celebrates the World Day of the Arabic language on December 18, commemorating the adoption of Arabic among the working languages ​​of the United Nations .


There are many Arabic dialects. Classical Arabic – the language of the Qur'an – was originally the dialect of Mecca in what is now Saudi Arabia. An adapted form of this, known as Modern Standard Arabic, is used in books, newspapers, on television and radio, in the mosques,  in conversation between educated Arabs from different countries and at international conferences , there are various spoken dialects of Arabic that differ from Modern Standard Arabic and differ from place to another place , Local dialects vary, and a Moroccan might have difficulty understanding an Iraqi, even though they speak the same language .


The key to learning Arabic is to learn Modern Standard Arabic as a foundation, and also learn the main dialect of the country or area you are most interested in, or will have the most interaction with .


Many other languages use words whose language of origin is Arabic ,  Arabic was very much used in Europe for the study of culture , mathematics, science, and physics. Mostly Mediterranean languages such as Spanish, Portuguese, Maltese, and Sicilian use many Arab words in their dialect. This may be mainly because of close relations between Arab and European civilizations and the Arab rule in the Iberian Peninsula for 700 years.


On the other hand Arabic has also borrowed words from other Semitic languages such  Hebrew and Assyrian. It has also recently borrowed some words from modern day European languages.


There are 28 consonants and three vowels – a,  i, u – which can be short or long. Some of the sounds are unique to Arabic and difficult for foreigners to pronounce exactly, though you should be able to make yourself understood .


The normal word order of a sentence is verb/subject/object , Feminine nouns add the suffix …aat to form the plural but masculine nouns generally have a "broken" plural which involves changing vowels in the middle of the word : kursi ("chair") ; karasi ("chairs") .


Arabic has very few irregular verbs and does not use "is" or "are" at all in the present tense: "the see blue " means " the see is blue " .


Learning Arabic is not easy,  But it has a great history and tradition,  It is one of the most captivating languages that if you learn will ever speak. Not many whose first or second language is not Arabic can speak Arabic. But those who do are proud of it , and i will make some lessons helping you to learn Arabic step by step .

why we should learn arabic

Learning the Arabic language will open up a new world of opportunities: personally, professionally, culturally, socially, and economically. In a global economy where nations and people are ever more dependent on each other to supply goods and services, solve national and political struggles, and ensure international security for everyone, the ability to understand each other has never been more important .

Studying any language is challenging , but learning and gaining proficiency and benefits is a great achievement.

And now i will tell you some important reasons why the Arabic language should be your first choice of foreign language to learn:

Arabic is one of the world's major languages and  the fifth most common native language in the world the official language in and it is the official language in 25 countries  that have a total population of 325 million people .

Arabic is one of the six official languages of the United Nations and its 17 specialized organizations, such as FAO, UNESCO, WHO, World Bank Group, CAO, FAO, FAD, WIPO, ITU, UNIDO, IMO, WMO, UNWTO, WTO, UPO, ILO and other specialized agencies and organizations.

The ongoing importance of the middle east for both  strategic reasons and for its oil resources , the western world will continue to have interest and interaction with the region for a long time , and it is not just previous two reasons the Arabic  nations  are rapidly growing into powerful global economies. Middle East markets are booming in various fields of business and industries such as the ICT (International Compliance Training), real estate, tourism, banking , gas, and industrialization ,  To work in these emerging markets it's essential to learn Arabic.

Western Arabic speakers are in very high demand, but in very low supply. Those who speak Arabic have the opportunity to develop their career in a variety of industries such as education, finance, journalism, foreign services and more.

 You will learn the language spoken and understood by Muslims throughout the world , that would be a great help if you are planning to live or work in Arabic nations .

The US government has designated Arabic as a language of strategic importance , and there are financial incentives for learning it . The National Strategic Language instituted in 2006 promotes the learning of Arabic among Americas through numerous scholarships and supported learning opportunities .

Being able to communicate in Arabic can promote intercultural understanding and assist in solving and avoiding future conflicts, while also helping businesses engage in successful international trade.
